Glossary of terms
Bamboozled by the lingo? Whether it’s AV, VR or POV, we’ve decoded the jargon.
- 360° Tour
A virtual tour that captures a complete 360-degree view of a space, allowing users to look around in all directions from any given point. - 360° Video
A video format that records all angles simultaneously, enabling viewers to control the viewing direction as the video plays, creating an immersive experience. - AR (Augmented Reality)
A technology that overlays digital content — such as text, images, or 3D models — onto the real world via smartphones, tablets, or AR glasses. - AV (Audio-Visual)
Content or equipment that combines both sound and visual components, often used in promotional videos or multimedia tours. - Digital Tour
Another term for a virtual tour, with an emphasis on its web-based or digitally interactive nature. - Drone Footage
Aerial video or photography captured using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), often used to showcase large properties or outdoor environments. - Equirectangular Image
A panoramic image format used in 360° photography, which maps a spherical view onto a flat, rectangular image for stitching and editing. - FOV (Field of View)
The extent of the observable area captured by a camera or visible through a headset. A wider FOV offers a more immersive experience. - HMD (Head-Mounted Display)
A wearable device, like a VR headset, that displays virtual content directly in front of the user’s eyes, allowing for an immersive viewing experience. - Hotspot
An interactive element embedded in a virtual tour that users can click or tap to trigger an action, such as opening a pop-up, navigating to another space, or linking to external content. - Interactive Tour
A virtual tour that includes hotspots, menus, and other clickable features, allowing users to actively explore and engage with the environment. - Nadir
The lowest point in a 360° image, typically beneath the camera tripod. Often edited or covered with a logo or graphic in post-production. - Node
A fixed viewpoint or location in a virtual tour from which the user can explore. At Vega 360, we call these Panoramic Orbs — the points that connect your space. - Panoramic Tour
A tour constructed from a series of 360° panoramic images, stitched together to simulate walking through a space. - POI (Point of Interest)
A specific location, object, or feature within a virtual tour that holds significance or adds value for the viewer. POIs are often marked with hotspots to highlight products, amenities, or key areas — helping guide users through your space with purpose and clarity. - POV (Point of View)
A visual perspective in photography or video that shows what the viewer or subject would see, commonly used in walkthroughs or first-person style content. - Stitching
The process of combining multiple images or video clips to form a seamless 360° panorama or tour. - VR (Virtual Reality)
A fully computer-generated 3D environment that users can explore and interact with using VR headsets and controllers. - XR (Extended Reality)
An umbrella term that includes all immersive technologies — VR, AR, and MR (mixed reality) — which blend the physical and digital worlds. - Zenith
The highest point in a 360° image, often showing the sky or ceiling directly above the camera.
