RNLI Anstruther
Operating for over 160 years, Anstruther Lifeboat Station has been involved in countless rescues around Scotland’s coast and out at sea. The crews have been awarded five Medals for gallantry.
We are proud to have supported RNLI capturing this Google Maps Virtual Tour that shares an insight into the station and what it takes to be a crew member, and gives a sneaky peek at the Shannon Class Lifeboat.

Learn about RNLI Anstruther’s lifeboats
Visiting Anstruther Lifeboat Station, you’ll get the chance to see two remarkable lifeboats that enable the brave crew to rapidly get out to sea and save lives.
Akira: A D Class Lifeboat, capable of transporting 3-4 crew and carrying 5 survivors for a range of 3hours at max-speed, 25 knots. With over 60 years’ service, the D Class Lifeboat is fast, manoeuvrable, and effective at saving lives.
Robert and Catherine Steen: Built in-house, the Shannon Class is an all-weather lifeboat that can transport 6 crew members and up to a total of 61 survivors. If operating a capacity of 6 crew and 18 survivors, the Shannon Lifeboat has the capability to self-right if it every capsizes at sea. With two powerful Scania D13 13-litre 650hp engines, the Shannon Class Lifeboat has a top speed of 25 knots and range of 250 nautical miles. RNLI Anstruther also utilise the Shannon Launch and Recovery System (SLARS) pictured here.
